Most useful

The image generator to me is most useful and interesting. As far as library is concerend, that would mean we can make our pamphlets more interesting or our webpages more interesting.
The next is the blog as one can post things and can get comments from users directly without worrying about login but someone has to keep monitoring it on daily basis.

Face book and pbwiki are OK as that would require login unless that can be tied up with murdoch login. But individual librarian can make up a page for different subject areas and link from the library web pages. Of course, very soon i think we will hear from the CWIS of what should be linked and not as some tools are better than the others.

Del.icio.us is another good tool of taking bookmarks away from the PC you are working on.

Overall, a lot of tools are free software, they can appear at anytime and they can disappear at anytime. We need to be careful of what software to use.

Overall, we have learnt quite a number of things but again the time put into them was astronomical. The following pic has got nothing to do with library but am just wondering if we are the guinea pigs for the '23 things'???

Another week - bit boring

I started to catch up as much as I can

Thing 17 & 18
Just join the twitter and did the tweet for the day. It is out of the day range and I don't find it that very useful.

Thing 19
Decided to give up second life completely as I did not attend any workshop. Would love to have an ipod but have to buy it myself as I am not eligible for the draw for not completing all the 23 things. Still using the cd player without a holder with many many cds, look so stupid in front of the young guns!

Thing 20
Not I am not into gaming.Using the web game to introducelibrary services is not a bad idea, I have to admit

Thing 21
Embed the best of Hong Kong Youtube video clip into this blog.

Thing 22
Embed Web 1 versus Web 2 slide from a web: 2 conference in San Franciscoin oct 2007.

Quickiest task

Somehow I had my facebook account set up by the Murdoch Alumni and I have relatives and past students joining me in, so the Thing 15 and Thing 16 seems to be not that difficult. But i don't like the look or the set up of the page, far too crowded for me. Time spent 40 minutes. Face book login. Just realised that I still don't know how to make my own facebook URL yet!

Additional Help

I realised the image generator only saved the words I created but the photo was gone. Gavin the IT officer from Peel was at South Street and he explained to me that the image has to be saved to my own drive first and then add it on as an image. Ha ! i got it. Thanks Gavin

Thought to try another one by putting frames onto the photo, it works!

One last one was my niece Frances who I promise to post another picture of her, so compare how she is now from the blog posted on 24th Oct 2007.

Things 15

Try the image generator thing, got the photo, put text in but when I copied and pasted the html address back to the blog it is not showing the picture, why?? Another 2 hours spent, no success! Just about to close the blog thought to try it again and you know what, it works this time ! No it did not

Library Images- these are classics

Group photo of most of the library staff in 2001.

Mid winter lunch 2005
Can anyone tell me the name of the song that this group of crazy librarians used for their act?

Flicker - uploading photos onto the Internet. this requires a creation of Yahoo account (which I had one before as to use the 'Talk' with my friend in SF, but used it once, still find it funny to talk to the headphone rather than directly to phone.

The login page for Flicker is Flicker. The pic uploaded onto flicker is available via Murdoch Library Photo

So far so good for today, as I can upload the photo onto Flicker. Why can't I simply upload pics onto Blog as it contains less rubbish on the screen.
Total hours spent today: 3 hours

Catching up and am flying above Murdoch campus

I had trouble in creating the PBWIKI last week, but today it was fine and I successfully created a Relatives everywhere PBWIKI , hopefully relatives everywhere would contribute and then I plan to have their photos uploaded and become an online family album.

I also managed to create Online bookmark via del.icio.us. Still need to do some more edition work and also that gave me a chance to tidying up all of my bookmarks which I stored in the last few years. Click on POST and then there will be pop up to guide one through

A total of 4 hours spent in getting things to work

Try again with shared doc.

Background for today:
I had been a taxi driver, driving my husband back and forth to the hospital, medical centre as he has been diagnosed with a kidney stone. Pain apparently is excruciating for him as he kept on mubbling that he had never had such pain before. I therefore need to stay at home again to see if the taxi service is required if his pain gets worse. Hence the thing 8-10 is done at home

Goodness me! Another Friday, this week I think I spent at least TEN hours.
1. Getting the 'shared doc' to work properly
a. Internet explorer at home has got no problem in pasting a spreadsheet
b. No firefox at home, successfully download it from the Internet
c. Re-do the shared doc again this time to insert a spreadsheet, compare
Relatives Contacts and old version

2. As with blogging, I notice that the spanner is not shown at all today and instead I found that I can click on the B icon and then select Posts for editing. Also, the option of dashboard only appears if you click on 'new post' in the first instance

3. As for PBwiki, this is a waste of time, almost one hour still could not get the pbwiki set up, keep on saying that I have to re-create the link again. Numerous emails sent to my inbox with all different links but not working. But i have been inspired that i would use it (as it is password protected) to fulfill one of my dream plan of having all of the relatives contacts (addresses, telephone and email) all included this would catch up with a few relatives that i have lost contact with. Hopefully i can also uploaded their photos together.

4. Move onto to have a look of social bookmarking, by doing a search on library2.0, the following results shows and make me realise that tagging is like a container of websites which is more meaninful and useful and less time consuming

Search for library2.0 Results
ddel.icio.us 502 tagged
Connotea 198 tagged
Citeulike 0 tagged
murdoch library catalogue (subject) 0 taxonomy
dogpile 63 keywords
kartoo 1040000 keywords
zuula (goggle) 1888000 keywords
zuula (yahoo) 971,000 keywords

i think i need to quite, my neck is hurting and my shoulder start to get very strain and tired. The photo shows the setting where i work at home.

one thing it starts to crop into my mind is the differences between the use of blog and wiki, would password protected be the main difference??

Google Doc

It appears that my niece, Frances can sucessfully open my shared doc and also put an amendement onto it. The above pic was taken when Frances was about 2-3 years old. Will post one of her more current one soon.

As for the shared document of reltive address, when i opened up again, I found that the whole document had gone and google doc has the following info. posted:

The bad news is that Google Docs has just encountered an error.
The good news is that you've helped us find a bug, which we are now looking into.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you
Sorry, and thanks for your help!
- The Google Docs Team
(report #BqkCjkF2G/ZRUl5J)

I just hope that the doc is still there otherwise it would mean Frances has to do it again!

Also, I found the most useful tab on shared doc and that is revision and if you lose the current doc you can at least recover the previous version.

Life is not getting any easier

This is hell, I spent lots of time to get the google document to work but it just doesn't give me the option of having a 'new' document until i asked Kathryn and realised it would be better to use Firefox. This would be something which is impt to be shared around. Another hour of mucking around to add the doc in. I simply want to add a pic but that took forever so i gave up. I thought to add a spreadsheet but it did not allow me as I need to use 7.1 firefox apparently our viewer is a bit outdated. Anyhow i shared the doc with my niece for the contact address of relatives, see if that works, but two hours spent altogether.
This is my shared google doc
It is a bit annoying that the wiki is always logged and cannot enter my progress! I have been complaining all the times, is there anything a bit more positive to cheer myself up.
yes off to home as i finish my ref desk duty on tuesday evening time: 9:16pm

Another week

I found that there are far too many email addresses which i need to remember, I am now going to list them all in one place to make my life easier

23 things
Gmail, from there click on reader to access Google reader
My blog
Wiki
Ref desk blog

I finished listening and watching the web 2.ppt and I need to call a quit as i was supposed to be resting at home due to an accident happened to me at work yesterday. i walked straight into a glass panel instead of opening the door and walk through.
I had a look of the shared google document, too hard, need to rest. Also uploading a pic at home took forever.
time stamp on blog is american time, not sure how it can be adjusted!
A pic of Marina with Uncle Fu after we had a busy long day at the Disneyland. I think she was super tired at that stage ! A bit like me now!

Task for third week

I managed to set up the goggle reader again via More in Gmail, what else is sitting under more, I wounder?
So far it has taken me close to an hour to add a couple of subscription onto the google reader. I have heaps of trouble using the RSS icon to add to subcription.I need to do it another time

I hate the url: http://mullet23.blogspot.com/2007/09/thing-6-learn-to-use-google-Aeader.html
is not linked to http://mullet23.blogspot.com/, you see the order of my URL, i did most of the things first before realised the youtube clip.

Also, i found in writting a blog, the undo button does not show, this is bad!
I had enough for today as i need to get on with my microsoft powerpoint as I missed the first class because Marina was not well.

With the pic I put in, Marina was with her Por Por at grandparents' morning tea at the kindy. She is so good in drawing, in fact she is very good of learning new things, which I admit that I am not. I suppose when a young kid learn, they learn and they don't think, when we learn, we think all other related or non-related issues which slows down the learning path.

Also just realised clicking on the pen icon on blog for correction ! Everything takes time!!

Another thing is to add my progress onto WIKI, I actually stole lock from someone, ha ha

Week 2 of 23 things

I have set up the gmail account and then from 'more' of gmail account I have set up this so called blogger! The web address for this blogger is

http://chanhonghan.blogspot.com/

I am with a group of kindy kids including my Marina. I am starting to feel like I am learning these 23 things from a kindy level. I suppose the bunch of kids know more or can learn much faster than I do.
Total time spent: 2 hrs

England Trip 29th June to 14th July 2022

Marina and I also  visited UK after the trip to Italy, photos titled Great Times at UK captured our wonderful moments spent with our family ...
